Any non kpop group would have won that award because they attended. BP were used for clout and discarded and humiliated because they even dragged the award announcement so that the humiliation would get the most attention. What is most embarrassing is that BP are so shallow that they can’t be held accountable for anything they say or do. Most people don’t take BP seriously so they aren’t even expected to have integrity. Why do you think hardly anyone drags BP for being advocates of saving the environment but BP are offenders of the very principle they push.

Blackpink never said anything about language, even never begged to collab with someone. Get it to your head, if they got the connections to collab, good, but they weren't in an interview saying we want grammys or we want to collab with x person. That is western validation for you. And guess what their solo charting has always been on par with collabs. Kamu debuted lower than D4 and SC matched with HYLT. IC is the outlier and that is because they got an actual push with digital sales and radio, not mainly Selena.

Because BTS once used to market themselves as a self-producing group who writes their own lyrics meanwhile Blackpink doesn't.

BP never begged any collab or said anything about changing theirselves to break out. That is the main difference.

They were ridiculed because kpop fans and companies knew that aside from Gangam Style, kpop had always been a failure. The fact that BTS grew organically in the US which created demand caught kpop fans by surprise. When they were invited to the BBMAs, as well all know, kpop fans lost brain cells and were crying to the heavens about it.

BP if I am not mistaken (not a fan) were sold as a world wide group by YG, and since they had a concept that was "appealing" to the west, I don't think kpop fans ever saw them as betraying their roots, or reaching for things that were beyond them. I'm sure if Twice tried to appeal to the west, I'd say kpop fans would have bashed them as well.

We have to take in consideration two different contests. YG has always tried to link with western artists even before BTS as a group even existed, GD/CL had various collabs with western artists and that's also because some the founders of this agency are american themselves (Korean Americans), now that they have BP who actually gained some attention they're simply using that situation at their advantage, also 3/4 of BP members grow up or studied in environments different than the korean one. BTS helped kpop a lot that's undeniable their success is real, unexpected and unprecedented especially because they started from nothing. The only small problem at least for me is that maybe they were a little incoherent considering that their most successful songs are in English but they said they would never release something totally English s and unfortunately antis still use this in fanwars. In conclusion both groups are successful and both fandoms are equally annoying and ridiculous.

And they aren't a fully Korean group to begin with. One is Thai, the other is Australian and Jennie lived most of her childhood abroad. They are naturally inclined toward western music and style in general. They come from YG. So HIPHOP; So USA.

It's how they were brought up. They way the speak, speak, act, dress, is all more western than Korean style.

They aren't "trying" to seek western validation. They are more western then Korean to genii with.
