Did bts pave the way for blackpink?

  • I think with BTS constantly releasing music and promoting they brought a ton of new fans to kpop which helped all k-pop groups. People argue it doesn't affect other 3rd gen groups but it really does.

There's a reason 3rd gen groups have lasted longer and are only peaking now with increased metrics across every platform.

Blackpink fans argue that their lack of promotions hurt the group so think about what would happen if the momentum for k-pop hadn't been pushed by BTS internationally (not in a lot of asian countries where k-pop was already popular with 2nd gen but others like India where quite literally every other group including blackpink saw an increase in their streaming numbers after BTS blew up with Dynamite). That's what all paving the way means.

2nd gen especially Psy did good for their time but these things are not comparable to BTS.

  • The VMA's is and has been an inevitability for Blackpink for ages. The only question mark was over whether or not YG would get around to arranging it.

But to take your post seriously, of course there's an aspect of every group in kpop becoming more known as a result of BTS's popularity. And western media loves a counterpart, so Blackpink has benefited from their names being linked a lot. And Blackpink doing well has put more attention on kpop girl groups in general too. No-one is carrying out their career in a vacuum. They all affect each other.
