why are thread pages so short now?

why is a thread that's suppose to be 2 pages has like 5 now? It's really annoying skipping through 3 posts on eaxh page

also noticed the gatekeeping I can't even lurk without signing in smh

They're making a lot of changes to try and increase activity but really all it's doing is making the site worse and driving people away.
