People put this stat on a pedestal and the end all be all of success because for most international fans thats what they see, when in reality most groups especially nowadays have little general public appeal and presence in the domestic market.
Obviously does not apply to all groups, but in a general sense for most groups.

Honestly sales of any kind isn't a good indicator of popularity or success. I'm a multistan and there is no way I could be able to afford to buy things from all the groups I stan. A lot of my k-pop friends are also multistans and they buy basically just their ults things when they can. Not everyone can buy anything from k-pop groups.
