  • If anything this proves that their strategy to promote their bsides pre-debut really worked. Cookies numbers are okay but not great and it’s become controversial due to the lyrics. It’s Attention and Hype Boy bringing them all the fans and good numbers.

attention, hype boy and cookie are ALL title tracks in this album. The only bside is hurt. They stated that right from the beginning. Given the stark contrast in budget for attention/hype boy vs cookie i think it’s pretty clear ador always expected cookie to chart weaker than the other 2 songs. The success of attention and hype boy isn’t a coincidence or luck. The song they chose to perform for studio choom is attention fgs lol, not hype boy or cookie. That’s not how bsides are treated over title tracks

Doubt they expected Cookie to be the least popular. Why would you build up to the weakest song. Plus it’s the only one that got a live performance so far.

um cookie never got a live performance, what? They haven’t performed any song live yet afaik. The only thing we’ve seen from them that is not from mvs is the studio choom performance of attention. They never even released a teaser for cookie during that “build up” period, and judging from the mv itself they shouldn’t anyway since it’s a glorified performance vid lol, all the budget obviously went to attention and hype boy. so i highly doubt they lowballed cookie so much but also expected it to chart better than the other 2 songs. At the very most expectations were equal for all 3 songs (they literally said they’re all title songs on the day the attention mv was released. attention and hype boy were never “bsides”), but in no way is cookie showing signs of being prioritised over attention.

Meant the studio choom performance. It’s only after Cookie was released that they were announced to start appearing on music shows too. Cookie was released at the same time as the mini album became available on streaming platforms, making it out to be the main single and the rest feel like pre-releases. But sure, all have so far received a similar amount of promotion.

i mean just bc we’re accustomed to what’s the “norm” in kpop doesn’t mean it’s applicable in every situation. Attention and hype boy were released on youtube before cookie, but the budget given to their mvs is obviously a lot bigger than cookie. Attention got a studio choom performance - the other 2 didn’t. And studio choom vids are always filmed way before a group’s release day so it’s not like they filmed attention overnight after seeing its performance on charts lol - it was a pre-planned decision to promote attention over the other 2. They also said from day one that all 3 songs are title tracks - they never backtracked from that. This is not at all similar to situations of pre-releases like for eg hylt when they specifically said it’s a pre-release and lovesick girls was the title track, or like illusion which was a pre-release single but didn’t even have an mv, and they also said girls is the title track only. Cookie was the last song from newjeans album that was released, so it’s also not similar to other albums where only 1 song is pre-released while the rest of the album comes with the sole title track. Literally cookie was the last song released. It came with the digital release of the album bc they needed another song that hadn’t been revealed yet, otherwise the whole album would’ve been revealed before it went on sale. And that unrevealed song shouldn’t be a throwaway bside either on the day of release, hence cookie. From the start they gave us the meat of the album right away to reel in interest for people to buy it, while cookie is there to give us sth new on release day. There’s no indication of it being treated as more of a title track than attention or hype boy, not in words or in actions. You’re literally dismissing all that just bc we’re used to the norm of pre-release => title track + album, which obviously means newjeans must fall in the same line despite everything pointing to the contrary :watt:
