  • Not sure, but I can check if they did. As for your original question, I think they (idols in general, not just when my faves do it) might, but they probably don't intend to. I suspect they just get told they have to do it by a staff member there, and then they get the filming done and don't think about it all that much.

of course i'm not putting it on the artists, i'm just questioning the thought process behind makng artists do these promo

Oh I see. My bad then. I'm not entirely sure. Maybe they figure the fans will be like: "They're so cool, I want to be like them!" and have that mindset. Or they just see the idols as marketing tools in those instances and are oblivious to the risks. Maybe they figure the saesangs won't be talented enough to actually make it into the company as a trainee.

Changed the title of the thread from “when groups do videos promoting auditions for their company, aren't they just attracting the weird sasaengs and other obsessed with korean culture kpop fans to become kpop idols?” to “when kpop companies ask groups to do videos promoting auditions for their company, aren't they just attracting the weird sasaengs and other obsessed with korean culture kpop fans to become kpop idols?”.
  • There are ten of thousands of auditioners, so they are weeded out until they reach a more smaller number (assuming that the agency is also doing some background check behind the scene).

And obviously, the artists are often presented as role models, therefore young fans might be inspired to go on the same path as them. :pepe-shrug:

  • i honestly don't know if these videos matter that much.

sasaengs often get private information through staff members (by paying them, mind you these staff members risk getting fired bc it's not allowed to do so) so i'd think they'd be aware of the auditions with or without these videos.

I'd also think that just the company name would attract sasaengs, like it attracts regular fans to try out, bc the company name usually is heavy associated the artists.
