Is Kpop too childish for western general audience?

  • In the west, female artists sing about explicit stuff and don't shy away to show sexualize videos. While with Kpop girl groups acts sexy on camera but their lyrics is kind of childish singing about sneakers and ordinary stuff.

  • well kpop is basically disney channel music. 2nd gen were probably the last gen who released mature/grown women or men music frequently

  • No, and I say that as a westerner. Twice for example is the second most popular girl group here after blackpink, and they are a cute girl group. Compared to other western girl groups, Blackpink themselves are rather cute but they also do well here.

The issue isn't whether the groups are explicit or not, it's about the song choices and concepts that are just bad.

  • is adele and taylor swift's music explicit?

  • Using explicit words or go "hard" on a song doesn't make it mature or less childish... lol. That's some weird take. Maturity is how you act. Kpop as a whole is not childish, SOME idols and groups seems like it, and that might also due to the fact that they debuted very young. Some active ones are not even 18 years of age. Alot of fans tends to forget that majority of idols are very, very young.

KPOP consists of more than just idol's music, although it is known for it. You're only know of the stereotypical KPOP because that's all your attention goes to. Otherwise, if you just focused on one genre and call the whole industry that genre, it is like only eating fast food and called all food trash.

It is not KPOP itself, it is more likely the faults in you in thinking that way.

  • BP exists even if you want to categorize them as childish music, thye do seem more mature compared to the majority of kpop groups, same with Mamamoo and RV to certain extent

Some of BP biggest hits are just around effects du du du du or repeating kids phrases like how you like that. It's hardly that much more mature than what songs op was referring to.

Kids phrases, yeah, you lost me at that. The use of Onomatopeia in music don't downgrade it to make it childish music, only stupid people think that

  • I don't know if childish is the right word. I would say more that western GA thinks kpop is "gimmicky" more than anything, and with very few exceptions, gimmicky music isn't aimed at an adult audience in the west.

It doesn't help that the most obvious "similar" groups, at least from a GA point of view, in the west are BG's like One Direction and early 2000's stuff like Backstreet Boys, or GG's like 5th Harmony, Spice Girls etc... These groups are clearly manufactured groups marketed to a younger demographic. Westerners see k-pop groups that look and feel very similar and make the same assumptions straight away.

  • Yes, especially groups like twice and others with cute concept. General ppl ain't gonna listen that unless they have kids or teenagers
