I listened to Sneakers with my jaw on the floor, I kid you not. It is seriously that bad. I just can’t understand how a song like that even gets made, let alone approved, recorded, and RELEASED with no one rejecting the monstrosity it is. So, naturally, I decided to check out Itzy’s other music, because aside from Dalla Dalla and Wannabe, which I like a lot, and a few of their other title tracks, I haven’t really given their other stuff a listen.
And apparently poor production and mixing is a recurring problem throughout their entire discography? Not to mention just bad song quality overall? From shouty vocals to poorly applied autotune, I just can’t understand why someone would give Itzy some of these songs. Their voices don’t suit a lot of it. The choruses are littered with jarring transitions, the production on the verses is minimal and even lazy. JYP seriously needs to consider revamping their entire artistic vision because aside from Twice (although Scientist was certainly a questionable song), their artists have quite possibly been getting some of the worst music in Kpop from a well-established company in recent times.
And no, this isn’t hate on Itzy. I like the girls, and they are probably some of the best performers the industry has ever seen. It just makes me upset to see a group with talent, that actually has some gems, be given songs that sacrifice quality for the sake of “catchiness” in TikTok trends or take a spot on an album as filler music.
