It is rare but male idols do get slut shamed

  • Why do you think no one cares about it?

Is it because it doesn't happen often?

Or is it because it is done by international K-pop fans and not Knetz?

A good example is BTS Jimin.

At one point he was misgendered on a daily business, laughed at because of his voice and slut shamed. Initially He was called a f-kboy because of his tough boy image during BTS debut era, then when he started openly showing affection for all the members (resting his head on them and hugging them) got called a slut. Years later when he finally softened up and said he enjoyed being in his skin now because he feels more like himself, people started misgendering him calling him a woman and saying vile things like he gets tons of d-cks up his a##.

It always bothered me that male idols like Jimin aren't in the discussion when kpop fans talk about idols being slut shamed.

  • I'm not sure that is the same as slutshamed though

Imo male slutshame would be something like wonho being bullied for his sexy pics and that he should quit music and start onlyfans account etc and he's pretty much the only severe case i've seen of it, the other male idols tend to be hyped/praised instead for having pics or wearing things similar as his meanwhile he gets all the nasty and hateful comments.

  • Kai that first time he wore thar crop top and had internet in flames only for it to later become a trend.

  • Male idols do get slutshamed too but your Jimin example is a bit odd. That sounds more like toxic masculinity than slutshaming.

Kai, Wonho, Monsta X definitely have been slutshamed. Toxic gg stans will also slutshame any bg dismissively as just “thrusting their hips and taking their shirts off” and people interested in that as trashy.

It’s all sides of the same coin. Women are criticized for what they wear and do and their sexuality is also hyper-scrutinized and aggressively controlled, whether it’s what the my wear, do or don’t do or what they like. This is less about the men getting “naked” or whatever and more about men (and women!) policing women’s sexuality (again).

It’s not talked about as much because it’s not as frequent, not usually as egregious as when it’s a woman (ie people are faster to slutshame a woman or over something very minor than they are a man) and can get deflected by the just-as-sexist shutdown of female opinions that they are just “defending their oppa.”
