Early 2000s Asian horror cinema peaked around the release of Banjong Pisanthanakun‘s Thai horror masterpiece Shutter (2004), which was eventually remade here in the States by 20th Century Fox and the producer behind The Ring and The Grudge.

Pisanthanakun is back with The Medium, a supernatural horror flick that will be produced by Korea’s Na Hong-jin, who was behind classics such as The Wailing, Yellow Sea and The Chase, writes THR.

Now in post-production, “The Medium is described as a horrifying story of a shaman’s inheritance in the Isan region of Thailand.

“But the goddess that appears to have taken possession of a family member turns out not be as benevolent as it first appears.”

Notes the site, international sales for The Medium are being handled by Seoul-based sales outfit Finecut, which will launch the film at Berlin’s upcoming European Film Market.
