…3rd. It was the main growth period for Kpop and opened a lot of new doors.
Not to mention the hugely successful groups that came out of it.
4th gen doesn’t have 3rd gens impact. Maybe it’ll change in a few years but we don’t know that.
2nd gen was the beginning of Kpop’s success but hadn’t really blown up yet
1st gen was mainly domestically in south korea, but had some initial break-through into the japanese market
2nd gen will be remembered for the hallyu wave and growing popularity in south east asia. not just for kpop, but also korean entertainment in general such as kdrama and korean variety shows
3rd gen will be more internationally and into the western sphere. while in general not as popular domestically to the general public, but still has really good domestic interest
4th gen is still growing popularity internationally, but substantially lower domestic interest so far, and outside of the top few groups/idols, tbh not a lot of idols are promoting on tv variety shows. still remains to be seen tho, since it's only the beginning
imo 2nd gen will always be considered "iconic and impactful" just because of the initial hallyu wave and nostalgia, but 3rd gen will probably also be looked at favourably as we go more years down the line
2nd gen shaped kpop
