Why is taeyeon the only successful soloist out of SNSD in physicals and digitals?

SM blacklisted the others with soloist potential like Tiffanny, Seohyun and Jessica. Sunny dropped music and the other 4 are just actress material. Also Taeyeon is one of the most popular members and she was lucky that her "scandals" served more as a platform to keep her name resonating in the kpop sphere, like the dating, the feud with Wiz and her car accident she had once

She was the representative member of SNSD. Her popularity was only matched by Yoona, but Yoona was pretty much only ever hyped for her visuals. Taeyeon was the leader, fantastic vocals and was considered one of the top visuals in the group. Her only real weakness was her dance, and she's not terrible there. Add in her reputation for being really hard working, and her dorky personality and you have a perfect stan attractor.

It's no surprise. The only other one that could have potentially matched her popularity imo was Tiffany, but she had a few scandals earlier on, and was treated as foreigner. Jessica lost her popularity as the years went by - IMO she wouldn't have done as well as her voice could be nasally and shrill at times. Seohyun didn't really have the off stage personality to be a major stan attractor. The rest all lacked in either vocals or were the less popular ones in the group.

Jessica was literally blacklisted by sm, despite that her song peaked at no.1 on melon. If sm had not blacklisted her from the industry she would definitely have been a successful soloist from snsd. Jessica was the 3rd most popular and her vocals were liked just after Tae.

Yoona made a nice choice with the acting route

Taeyeon and Yoona were always the most popular in SNSD. Taeyeon is successful with music and osts, while Yoona choose the acting route. Tiffany released music but soon went to US and now doing broadway too. Seohyun, Yuri, and Sooyoung also mainly focus on acting. Sunny doesn't really do anything nowdays. The only one in SNSD who focus on music other than Taeyeon is Hyoyeon and she was always one of the least popular in SNSD.
