I. Introduction
We Are Superhuman is the fourth Korean EP by the permanent NCT sub-unit NCT 127. It was released on May 24, 2019 by SM Entertainment and Capitol Music Group.
II. Background and Release
After the success of their full album Regular-Irregular in 2018, NCT 127 embarked on their first concert tour in 2019, Neo City: The Origin, spanning Asia, Europe, the U.S. and Canada.
On April 18, 2019, NCT 127 announced the new EP, featuring teaser pictures with only nine members. It was announced that WinWin would not be with the group, but instead with the new Chinese NCT sub-unit, WayV.
We are Superhuman was released as NCT 127 reached the North American portion of its tour, with the release heavily supported by U.S. promotional events and special social media shows like NCT 127 Hit the States.
The band debuted the EP's title track "Superhuman" on April 18, 2019 on the popular American morning program, Good Morning America, becoming the third Korean act to appear on the program. Teasers were released leading up to May 14, when the pre-release single track "Highway to Heaven" was released and NCT 127 continued to promote on high-profile American shows, including The Late Late Show with James Corden.
The EP debuted on May 24, 2019 and featured six songs. The style of the EP reflected a shift to a greater emphasis on r&b and funk-laced pop, including the vibrant electropop funk of the title track. NCT started Korean promotions on the same day. An English language version of "Highway to Heaven" and accompanying video were released on July 18.
NCT 127 would continue to promote the release throughout the year, including the English version of "Highway to Heaven," notably as the first K-pop group to perform at the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in November, a popular U.S. event.
