I. Introduction

Girls' Generation (Korean: 소녀시대; RR: Sonyeo Sidae) is the self-titled debut album by South Korean girl-group Girls' Generation. It was released by S.M. Entertainment on November 1, 2007. A reissue titled Baby Baby was subsequently released on March 13, 2008.The tour Girls' Generation Asia Tour Into the New World was used to promote the album, along with music shows promotion before the tour, which started on December 19, 2009 in Olympic Fencing Gymnasium, Seoul, South Korea, ended in Taipei Arena, Taipei, Taiwan on October 17, 2010.

III. Impact

The group made its official debut in 2007 with nine members: Taeyeon, Tiffany, Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Yoona, Sooyoung, Jessica, and Seohyun. The group performed their first single, “Into the New World,” on Inkigayo in August of that year. They later released two additional singles, “Girls’ Generation” and “Kissing You,” before releasing their self-titled debut album that November. Their album is the twelfth best-selling album of 2007 in South Korea. The song would go on to be covered by numerous girl groups including, Gfriend, Dreamcatcher, SM Entertainment Labelmates Red Velvet, (G)-Idle, Weki Meki, I.O.I. and Twice among others.

Trivia

• The song "Girls' Generation" was originally released by Korean singer Lee Seung Chul in 1989. The singer performed with the group on a music show during the song's promotion to celebrate this cover together.
• "7989"'s title refers to Taeyeon and Kangta's birthday years: Kangta is 1979, and Taeyeon is 1989.
• The Skool Rock Remix of "Kissing You" is the winner of a fan remix contest launched in January 2008.
