I. Introduction
Gong Yoo, born on July 10, 1979, as Gong Ji-cheol, is a famous actor, best known for his acting skills and innumerable repertoire.
He graduated with a B.A in theater and started a career as a jockey on Mnet. He did a number of supporting roles in dramas and movies and tried his hand at hosting music programs. His first main role was in 2005, as he was casted in Hello My Teacher opposite Gong Hyo-jin, followed by One Fine Day in 2006 opposite Sung Yu-ri. However, the real breakthrough came with Coffee Prince. His acting was highly praised and that earned him a higher status in the industry.
Soon after, Gong Yoo enlisted. He did 8 months of frontline active service in Cheorwon and was transferred to the Defense Media Agency, where he served in the public relations department. He was discharged in December 2009.
Post-enlistment, Gong Yoo worked in various films and dramas that failed to meet up the audience's expectations. It was only in 2016 that his career skyrocketed all thanks to A Man and a Woman opposite Jeon Do-yeon. Next in line was the blockbuster Train to Busan followed by The Age of Shadows.
Working with Kim Eun-sook next in the fantasy drama Goblin only solidified his status as an A-list actor.
In 2021, Gong Yoo starred in Lee Yong-ju's action thriller film Seo Bok alongside Park Bo-gum.
