I believe that's one of the effects of the parasocial relationship. Kpop stans, even the woke ones, are so diluded and invested in the Kpop world that they do not realize that these idols are no different from the average Korean citizen.

It's not uncommon to see Kpop stans thinking their faves are woke just like them based on little evidence. The fact that these people think they have a close relationship with idols make them project their values onto them.

But I mean, people start listening to Kpop without knowing how dirty and corrupted the industry is or how conservative the Korean society is. IMO, given how dead pop is in the West (compared to some years ago), westerners being so into Kpop and its catchy tunes were bound to happen.
