Actually, there's a war between the two other major factions of the CCP: The Shanghai Clique and the Tuanpai. Both of these factions hated each other but they hate Xi's failed economic policies more than anything.

I think it has to do more with talent rather than censorship.

Many Chinese choose to enroll in STEM-related education in order to get their families out of poverty. They end up leaving the country, causing a brain drain.

This is why China has more soft power during the Xi administration than the Hu administration despite the former having much more censorship.
