Hot take: In order to brag about Genuine International Popularity their faves need to enter BB hot 100

  • In which case not even BTS is truly global.

they have had #1 albums in all of those markets and swept the top 10 markets ( other two Brazil/ China don’t have charts).

they’ve also had Top 5 singles in every top market (Germany/France #1 airplay, #6 and #7 official chart). Multiple #1s in USA and JPN, three #3 peaks in the UK…it goes on.

  • Global popularity yet only mentions one random chart in one country :pepefacepalm:

The post I quoted said song, not album.

And as you just admitted, BTS has never had a top 5 song in Germany. Butter was the highest charting at number 6.

Hence why the demands are ridiculous.

But of course you had to assume I was shading BTS, rather than pointing out that some people might want to rethink their requirements for "global success" if not even BTS can meet them.

The post requiring a Top 5 song in all those markets is indeed a steep demand — I’m not even sure a current Western artist can meet it. My point though was basically that BTS actually does meet even a tough standard like that, if we agree to not split hairs over #5 vs #7.

My bigger point though was my initial post — we do need a standard for what global success actually is, and a simple way to do that for ANY act is to see how things fare in the top markets.

  • Disagree, if your standard is BTS then you just have blackpink some steps lower then a vast nothingness
