Aespa coachella didnt make any international noise

  • outside of the kpop circles I havent heard a single thing abt aespa and i alr know ppl are gonna create a stupid narrative abt how its bc aespa sucks so I'll just explain why

First of all the thing that made the most noise about coachella this year was how much coachella sucks. A lot of what I saw was people hating on coachella, the difference between the coachella photos vs reality, and the "ugly clothes" trend where influencers wore ugly clothes to satirize coachella influencer photos.

Also other than Megan's diss rap, harry×lizzo, Billie and the Weekend nobody really got that much hype outside of their own fandoms. Ms doja brought it but I dont see people talking abt her outside her own fandom. Justin bieber and Daniel killed their peaches stage and it didnt recieve musc attention either. I could go on and on.

Anyways atleast it's making a lot of hype in the kpop circles. Personally I liked it esp winter ❤ I always knew my girly had it in her.

    Approved the thread.
  • despite mys' best attempts at trying to convince the kpop community that the performance made waves and had the general public talking, it didn't. It's mostly mys hyping it up. nobody outside the fandom was blown away from the performance. at least it was better than the thanksgiving day parade disaster.

  • That was the expected outcome for any logical person

  • Did you expect it too? The crowd was half empty and no one knew who they were lmao.

even people at the event said the crowd was mostly dead. but you'll have mys here acting like they rocked the event. the majority of the people cheering were mys who specifically went there for them.

  • Well that's ok because they've gained so many followers and support over social media at least it's some exposure

  • On what evidence did BP make noise internationally outside the kpop sphere with their performance? ant semi popular kpop groups performing will always trend worldwide and get loads of views due to the fact that they're kpop and the fans tweet and stream like hell

Fans using twitter and random comments on youtube as evidence of a group or performance going viral, or "locals loving them" is one of the dumbest things around. You just know there are a bunch of kpop fans that disguise themselves as "locals" to try and get more attention to their biases and it has definitely been called out before.

  • What are the more relevant festivals then? I only ever hear about coachella. The expectation vs reality article was dumb. The three main complaints were the parking lot (no one's there for the parking lot), overpriced food (just like every other festival) and the sun (every festival around this time is going to be hot). Just seems people are hating on it because its popular. People like to be contrarian.

Aespa fans are really something, downplaying bp virality in Coachella…

    Prime example.

First person I searched for from those screenshots was the @aerichuv user and they've been tweeting about Ningning for weeks and clearly a fan, but kpop fans always look to build these narratives

    this post isnt abt blackpink...

also im confused if you're saying blackpink didn't do well or aespa didn't do well bc everything you said applies to both groups.

BP was featured in Coachella documentary as a highlight of 2019 one, plus multiple tabloids about them performing. So yes they actually did noise when they performed back then

  • I think some of you really can't enjoy things

  • I doubt aespa won over many from non-kpop circles because as OP and others pointed out, nobody outside of fandoms cares about most of these performances. But given the noise amongst kpop circles and the number of kpop fans tuning in out of curiosity, they probably did get a reasonable number of new fans. not convinced most of these fans are american though and the us market is what sm was obviously targeting.

funny that the biggest noise was in korea by far (the media play was very effective in capturing attention there, even if there was some ridiculing). but they're already huge in korea so minimal benefit of this.

Yeah, they didn't achieve anything right?

agreed. some people have selective memory. if they weren't purposely trying to downplay bp, they'd remember that bp was one of the biggest stories out of coachella that year. and that was for both nights they performed. and that was at a time when kpop wasn't as big as it is today. so anybody trying to gaslight people that somehow those two shows weren't significant for kpop, and that it doesn't still remains as the biggest stages when it comes kpop and western festivals such as coachella are just kidding themselves.

  • like I was said before, the aim wasn't to catch locals because ain't no way song with Kwangya vibes could reached locals. SM goal for aespa is to grow significant fanbase which will be coming true since apparantly all of you can't stop talking about aespa.
