As a dancer it's something I've been wondering for some time. Some dancers can be very expressive. I think one of the main reasons some companies ask their idols to perform as emotionless as possible is for prevention of deep wrinkles. I know it sound shallow but wrinkles are formed from facial movements. Doing to many face movements over time or the same repetitive face movement in a short time can make someone develop very deep wrinkle. Although botox is used to help prevent face movements especially in the forehead area, botox is not a cure and with each use becomes less effective. I believe to combat this companies drill in the lack of expression to their idols to give them a good wrinkle prevention habit. After all prevention is better than cure and there are currently no cures for wrinkles only temporary solutions.

Interesting… maybe?

Idols use a LOT of skin products, and consult with dermatologists all the time, no matter how expensive either may be. A kfan of my faves for example, asked a professional what it costs to have perfect armpits like theirs at the same place members have been spotted at, the answer was over a million won.
If companies ever tell idols to be expressionless, I think it's more likely they're doing it so that there can't be accidentally "ugly" pictures of them taken.

It's also to prevent "ugly" pictures. I know one group spoke on this but I don't remember their name. They're having practically every moment on stage photographed. If they over-emote fans get ugly looking pictures and they don't want that. So they try to stay camera ready at all times. Hence minimal expression.
