To give the tldr, they studied the genetic components of remains of 1,700 year old South Koreans. They were found to be very diverse, sharing similarities with ancient Japanese natives (who were darker skinned and looked non-East Asian). Also based on another recent study, the earlier inhabitants of Korea were much different from current Koreans but something happened to them that they became extinct. The most reasonable explanation is that they suffered the same fate as certain Native American people, killed off by disease and violent colonization. It puts things to perspective, that xenophobia and ethnic supremacy ain’t something that forms out of thin air, but an ancient practice that carries on in a society even when they forget the people who they originally oppressed.
Genetic evidence gives hint of racial genocide in early Korea

I heard that Koreans are mix of North Asians and Southeast Asians. I think Koreans still look more Southeast asian than Siberian also considering that they are agricultural and belong to sinosphere. Mongolian invasion must have some effect on their dna too. I think the only thing left from their northern ancestors(or invaders?) is the language because Korean language share similarities to inner asian languages.
