Well, it was actually 2 questions I had in my post: usually K-pop fans try to predict contract renewal times based on the time of a group's debut.

But of course, a contract doesn't need to start right at debut, but might start earlier. If SHINee had their contract renewal in 2014, then this'd mean they had a contract that started before 2008 - or they had a shorter contract term.

As far as I know, yeah. It was just based on fan speculation on statements made that got misinterpreted. There was no official confirmation of any contract renewal news by SHINee or SM Entertainment until 2018.
