This is more just bizzare than cringe today.
In 2011 it has been almost a decade that YG entertainment had been working with Japanese publisher juggernaut UMG Japan.
Then suddenly at YGEX Press Con on July 21st, 2011 Avex's CEO and Max Matsuura was in attendance and Matsuura went up on stage and shook hands with YHS and announced an new partnership between the two labels for distribution in Japan (which has lasted to this day with Blackpink's recent releases).
At this time Bigbang had just released Big Bang 2 which was a greatest hits compilation in Japanese of Japanese versions of many of their Korean hits and remixes of some of their Japanese singles. So many people in the J-Pop and K-Pop communities were confused.
They then brought out some of the line up of artists who's albums releases in Japan would be handled through Avex starting THAT DAY.
Avex ended up coming also handling 2NE1's Philippines and Taiwan album releases as well as all YG Japanese concert DVD-Blu-Ray releases.
