Does anyone still follow this kpop adjacent singer anymore too? (Lexie Liu)

  • I feel like she’s extremely underrated and i think she’d do numbers if an idol group had a song written by her OR if she herself performed in an XG kinda way.

She makes like pop bible bops left and right and she was in K/DA and placed 4th don Kpop Idol 5 or something. Her vision is so good i just feel like this could be a good direction for a Katseye type of group or even Le Sserafim? Maybe Aespa?

Imagine any of them promoting THIS???

I feel like she breaks a musical 4th wall and its honestly refreshing. The chorus is literally “skin clear, hair shiny. girls and gays like me” and she has this very authentic quality of being self aware. Like shes both a perfect icon but she needs the tiktok beauty filter for confidence. The pause to give herself affirmations.

It feels like what Gnarly, Rich Man and Spaghetti are all missing for like that level acclaim is in this song. (Mind you i only dont like Rich Man)

Do other people agree with the above two statements? (Lexie Liu has the formula of what Kpop needs and these groups would fit her mold?)

And as a third point that this makes me ponder, is this just where pop is headed? Satirical, self aware and kind of a little on the nose but on purpose?

    Brat Summer? Brat lifetime.

  • Yes, huge fan of hers and made a thread about her recent EP

She went with a different direction for her latest project and it's fully in English. I think she's trying to expand her audience because she might've been boxed in with her older music. I hope she makes it big because she deserves it

    Go stream her EP

Forgot to comment on your statement. I think her music would do pretty well if a kpop group performed it.

edit: Forgot to comment on your statement. I think her music would do pretty well if a kpop group performed it. I guess some of idle music like Queencard does have some self awareness. I think OT5 era of Idle ian example of songs that are self aware with a message that kind of break the 4th wall.

I do think her music gets message better across than some kpop songs that have attempted to be self-aware in a song.

Pop music is heading into vulnerability and being self-aware. A lot of the biggest acts in pop at the moment are self-aware and discuss their vulnerabilities. I think people are looking for more relatable stars than they did in the past. It's why a lot of the biggest pop stars speak on vulnerabilities and are performing well.
