They made it more popular, but just like with BP, 2NE1 was more of a badass concept than an actual girl crush.

People always argued about this back in the day. For me, Girl Crush was the sexier version, and the Badass is obvious. I don't think 2NE1 and BP can be included in the "sexy" category.

Also, the industry usually referred to groups as "Girl Crush" when they had more female fans than male.
