"Jennie, self-producing her first solo album… The title track 'Like Jennie' will showcase her spectrum."
K-pop’s leading girl group member and solo artist Jennie (JENNIE), from BLACKPINK, has taken on the role of producer for her first solo album.
According to her agency OA Entertainment (ODDATELIER) on the 4th, Jennie has produced her first full-length solo album, Ruby, which will be released simultaneously worldwide at 2 PM on the 7th.
The album title Ruby is derived from Jennie's full English name, "Jennie Ruby Jane." It is expected to be an album closely tied to her identity, with Jennie taking the reins as producer to clearly express her "self-narrative."
The title track is also called "Like Jennie." With this song, Jennie is set to reveal a new styling and concept. Through this album, Jennie will showcase a wide range of musical styles. Tracks such as "ExtraL," a collaboration with the Grammy-winning American rapper Doechii, and "Love Hangover," featuring American alternative musician Dominic Fike, will be included. Additionally, there are songs featuring prominent artists like American rapper and producer Childish Gambino (Donald Glover), British pop star Dua Lipa, French electronic musician FKJ, and American singer-songwriter Kali Uchis.
Jennie has also been actively engaging with her fans. On February 27, she held a special event, the Rubify Listening Party, in collaboration with global audio and music streaming platform Spotify, at the Hyundai Card Understage in Hannam-dong, Seoul, to celebrate the release of Ruby.
Jennie said, "This album has great meaning as it conveys my story as a solo artist through my own voice and vision. Inspired by Shakespeare’s ‘Seven Stages of Life,’ it includes various elements like birth, love, faith, and climax. The opening of the curtain in a play and the unfolding of the next chapter symbolizes the beginning of a new musical career." She continued, "Working on this album was a precious process of growing as an artist and finding my true voice."
To celebrate the release of the album, Jennie will also hold The Ruby Experience show. This show tour will kick off on the 6th and 7th in Los Angeles at the Peacock Theater. It will then visit New York's Radio City Music Hall on the 10th and Incheon’s Inspire Arena on the 15th. Notably, due to the strong support from fans, a second performance has been added in LA.
On the 29th (local time), Jennie will receive the Global Force Award at Billboard's Women in Music event at the YouTube Theater in LA.
