Is staying in Korea in realistic and viable option for the foreign line members of TWICE?

  • There are plenty of solo career options for the Korean members of TWICE, but what about the foreign members such as Sana, Mina, Momo and Tzuyu?

Is it in their best interest for their career to stay in Korea? While I'm sure they will have mostly have no problem appearing on variety shows here and there, they will be much bigger in their home country, especially for someone like Tzuyu who most of the time does not talk much on shows, and will not handle well if she has to be a solo guest/regular on programs.

On top of that, I have yet to see a foreign idol who have had a long-lasting career staying in Korea. Not saying it's impossible, but there hasn't been a precedent of that happening. Will TWICE be the first to be able to pull this off?

I'd be shocked if they stayed.

No, if they wanted they could remain minor celebs in Korea but they'd be fools to do so. Much like Cao Lu, whenever any international incident happens, they will be the punching bag. Not to mention Korea's new president will make Japan-Korea and China-Korea relations worse.

I think Tzuyu honestly should go back to Taiwan now if she ever wants to. Taiwanese entertainment is being taken over by the CCP, if Tzuyu waits even 3 more years, she's screwed. Tzuyu's mom is rich and influential, they can start her off in Taiwan --> eventually she'll get bigger. Also Taiwanese ent will totally embrace Tzuyu as a star - even Tzuyu's J fanbase will support her there. Depending on how Tzuyu's mom manages the expansion into China they could also solve the CCP dilemma. It's been 6 years since that incident.

There was one foreigner who made it into Korea - Kangnam but he gave up everything about Japan, and never spoke about Japan much.

Sana can renew for a few years. She's the most popular in Twice, and the Japanese industry will be waiting for her in 3-5 years so there's no huge rush. I doubt there's going to be anyone as big in Japan as Sana with the entire GP. Sakura/co have more specific fanbases but less GP pull.

Whatever Mina's mental health lets her do she'll do. I think she's a wild card. She may renew but not do many Twice activities + stay more at home.

Momo is a fan favorite in Twice, but it's true she'd have more opportunity back in Japan, where she's legitimately funny but she'd have to start from scratch again. There's also the fact that she's constantly bashed for the singing thing. I think she'll renew on the condition she gets more dance gigs, and less lines.

I think some of the Korean members have a bigger chance of leaving.
