I. Introduction
SIXTEEN is a South Korean reality and survival girl group survival show. It was created by JYP Entertainment and Mnet. It is named SIXTEEN because it has a total of sixteen contestants.
II. Contestants
SIXTEEN has a total of 16 contestants. 11 of the contestants are South Korean, two are Japanese (Momo Hirai and Sana Minatozaki), one is Japanese-American (Mina Myōi), one is Thai (Natty), one is Korean-Canadian (Jeon So-mi), and one is Taiwanese (Chou Tzu-yu). 9 of the contestants went on to form a group named TWICE. Four of the other individuals ended up eliminated and later becoming part of a group (Natty becoming part of KISS OF LIFE, Lee Chae-ryeong becoming part of ITZY, Jeon So-mi becoming part of I.O.I, Lee Chae-yeon becoming part of IZ*ONE, and Park Ji-won becoming part of fromis_9), and 2 of the contestants ended up eliminated without becoming part of a group (Song Min-Young and Kim Eun-suh).
III. Description
The contestants participated and were judged by JYP Entertainment's A&R team for their charisma, dancing abilities, singing abilities, and personality. The survival show starts with the contestants being divided into two groups: the Majors and the Minors. The members of the Major and Minor groups change as the contestants show their skill to complete their missions. There were five missions assigned to the contestants in total. In order, they are "Are you a Star?", "Album Jacket Cover", "1:1 Battle", "Group", and "Members Election".
IV. Winners
At the end of the show, the winners of the survival show were announced: Im Na-yeon, Yoo Jeong-yeon, Sana Minatozaki, Park Ji-hyo, Mina Myōi, Kim Da-hyun, and Son Chae-young.
JYP Entertainment stated that along with the seven members that have been selected, one would be selected by the viewers (which turned out to be Tzuyu), and one from Park Jin-young's personal opinion (which turned out to be Momo despite she was eliminated in the fourth mission).
The winners were then announced as nine individuals instead of the original seven: Im Na-yeon, Yoo Jeong-yeon, Sana Minatozaki, Park Ji-hyo, Mina Myōi, Kim Da-hyun, Son Chae-young, Chou Tzu-yu, and Momo Hirai. Together, despite some members being from different countries, they formed the South Korean girl group known as TWICE.
The show ended after the nine winners were announced, on July 7th, 2015.
