I. Introduction
GOT7 (갓세븐) is a seven member boy group formed by JYP Entertainment. The members are Jay B, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom. They debuted on January 16, 2014 with the EP Got It? and lead single "Girls, Girls, Girls". GOT7 gained attention for their live performances which often included martial arts tricking and street dancing. GOT7 have achieved international critical acclaim over their career topping music charts in multiple countries.
There are two sub-units within GOT7. JJ Project (Jay B and Jinyoung) which actually debuted before GOT7 and Jus2 (Jay B and Yugyeom).
On January 19, 2021, GOT7 departed JYP Entertainment following their expiration of their contracts.
II. Career
In 2009, Jay B and Jinyoung joined JYP Entertainment after tying for first place during open auditions. In 2010, Mark and BamBam joined the company after being scouted in Los Angeles and Bangkok. Later that year, Yugyeom was offered an opportunity to join the company through his dance school. In December Jackson successfully passed open auditions in Hong Kong.
Prior to debuting in GOT7, Jay B and Jinyoung (then going by the stage name Junior) made their debut as actors in 2012 in the Dream High 2. That May the duo debuted under the name JJ Project with the single "Bounce". Mark, Jackson, BamBam, and Yugyeom made their first television on the Mnet survival show Who is Next: WIN (which formed YG Entertainment's Winner). Youngjae was the last member to join after having only been a trainee for seven months.
On January 1, 2014, JYP Entertainment announced the debut of GOT7. They were originally described as a hip gop group that in corporates martial arts tricking and b-boying styles in their performances. The group released their first EP Got It? on January 20 and it quickly went to #1 on Billboard's World Album Chart. On June 23, GOT7 released their second EP, Got Love, with the lead single "A". For this album, the group took on a brighter image compared to the hip-hop style at debut. In November 2014, they released Identify, their first full length album which topped Gaon's Weekly Album Sales Chart in its first week. In October, GOT7 made their Japanese debut with Around the World.
In January 2015, GOT7 won the "New Artist Award" at the 29th Golden Disc Awards and 24th Seoul Music Awards. Later that month, GOT7 starred in their own web web drama, Dream Knight. On June 10, 2015, the group released their second Japanese single "Love Train", which debuted at #4 on the Oricon Singles Chart. On July 13, 2015, they released their third Korean EP Just Right. The lead single peaked at #3 on the Billboard World Digital Songs Chart. The group released their fourth EP, Mad, and lead single "If You Do" on September 29.
On February 3, 2016 GOT7 released their first full-length Japanese album Moriagatteyo which placed at #2 on the Oricon charts. On March 21, they released their fifth EP Flight Log: Departure and title track "Fly". On March 31, GOT7 became the first Korean act to enter the Billboard Artist 100 since Psy by entering the chart at #45. Beginning in April in Seoul, GOT7 held their first solo concert tour "Fly Tour" with dates in China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, and the United States. On September 27, GOT7 released their second full length album Flight Log: Turbulence with title track "Hard Carry". It sold 200,000 albums and debuted at #1 on the Billboard World Album Chart.
On March 12, GOT7 released their sixth EP and final album in the Flight Log trilogy, Flight Log: Arrival and title track "Never Ever". On May 24, they released the Japanese single "My Swagger" which debuted at #2 on the Oricon charts. On October 10, the group released their seventh EP 7 for 7 and title track You Are. The album features songs written and composed by the members themselves.
On March 12, 2018 the group released their eighth EP Eyes on You with the title track "Look". The album topped iTunes album charts in more than twenty countries. On May 4 kicked off their Eyes on You World Tour in Seoul. The tour continued through the summer with dates in Asia, Europe, North America and South America. On September 17, GOT7 released their third full album, Present: You with title track Lullaby. On November 8, Present: You was certified platinum by Gaon.
On January 30, 2019 GOT7 released their third Japanese EP, I Won't Let You Go which debuted at #1 on the Oricon Daily Album Chart. On March 3, Jay B and Yugyeom debuted as a new subunit, Jus2 with the EP, Focus. On May 20, 2019 they group released their ninth EP Spinning Top: Between Security & Insecurity with the title track "Eclipse" which sold more than 200,000 copies in the first week. On July 31, they released their fourth Japanese EP Love Loop which debuted at #2 on Oricon's daily album chart. On November 4, 2019, GOT7 released their tenth extended play Call My Name with lead single "You Calling My Name" which sold more than 100,000 copies in the first day. At the 4th Asia Artists Award held on November 26, GOT7 won their first Grand Prize for Performance of the Year.
On April 20, 2020, GOT7 released their eleventh EP, Dye with lead single "Not By the Moon" which sold more than 150,000 copies in the first day and 280,000 copies in the first week, breaking their personal sales records. With more than 450,000 copies sold it is their best selling album to date. On November 30 GOT7 released their fourth studio album, Breath of Love: Last Piece with lead single "Last Piece".
On January 11, 2021, JYP released an official statement announcing that all seven members would leave the company when their contracts expired. Despite this, Jay B stated during an Instagram Livestream that they will continue to promote together as a group. On February 19, GOT7 released a special single "Encore" which was posted to their new group YouTube channel.

V. Trivia
- GOT7 were the first JYP Entertainment group to sell 2 million copies since debut.
- GOT7 were the first K-Pop group to perform at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
- On June 26, 2019, GOT7 became the first Korean group to perform on The Today Show.
