JJ Project


  • JJ Project is South Korean duo originally from JYP Entertainment. It consists of members Jay B and Jinyoung and they debuted on May 12, 2012 with the single album Bounce.

    I. Pre-Debut

    In 2009, Lim Jaebeom and Park Jinyoung successfully passed the audition for JYP Entertainment after they were paired together in the final audition round. They tied for first place and entered the company together as trainees.

    II. Career

    In January 2012, they part of the KBS drama Dream High 2 with the stage names JB and Jr. On May 8, JYP Entertainment announced the debut of a new duo project called JJ Project. They debuted on May 20, 2012 with the single album Bounce which combined hip hop, rock, and electronica.


    Between June and October, they appeared in the SBS MTV reality show Diary for 45 episodes. In July, they opened Wonder Girls' Wonder World Tour in Seoul In August, they took part in the JYP Nation concert in Seoul.


    JJ Project earned an estimated 1.25 billion won over 2012 from activities and endorsements.


    In April 2013, the duo appeared as actors in the MBC drama When a Man Falls In Love. After that they went on hiatus and in January 2014, JB and Jr. debuted as members of the boy group GOT7.


    Five years after their debut, on July 31, 2017, JJ Project released the mini album Verse 2. The album is a self-written and self-composed set of songs about the anxieties of youth. The album was well received and placed at number 2 on the Gaon Album Chart. At the end of 2017, it was chosen as the fifth best k-pop album of 2017 by Billboard Magazine.


    On January 19, 2021, both Jay B and Jinyoung left JYP Entertainment following the expiration of their contracts. Both members have expressed a desire to continue releasing music as JJ Project in the future.

    VI. Trivia

    • Both members have promoted under different stage names over their careers.
    • Jinyoung originally debuted as Jr. (pronounced Junior), but due to confusion over the name it was changed to Junior in May 2015, and in August 2016 it was announced that Jinyoung would promote under his given name.
    • Jay B originally debuted as JB and kept this name while under JYP. After leaving the company he changed his stage name to Jay B.
