EXO - Sing For You


  • I. Introduction

    Sing For You is the fourth extended play by the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO, released on December 15, 2015 in Korean and Chinese versions with the title track "Sing For You."


    II. Background and Release

    After the success of EXO's first winter album, Miracles in December, in 2013, the winter album became a regular tradition for the group. In November 2015, the second winter album was announced, with teaser images rapidly following until the EP was released on December 12.


    As part of the Korean promotions for the album, EXO hosted a showcase that set the record as the most-watched live stream on the VLive app. Prior to the EP's release, EXO partnered with Disney for a special promotional song, "Lightsaber", for the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens in South Korea, as part of the collaboration project between SM Entertainment and Walt Disney. A teaser video for the song was released on November 8, followed by its music video and digital release on November 11. The song was also included on Sing For You. This was the first release to not feature former member Tao, who left the group in August 2015.

    Sing for You broke the record previously held by EXO's second studio album, Exodus, as the album with the biggest first-week sales recorded by Hanteo with over 267,900 copies. The album's Korean and Chinese versions debuted at number 1 and 2 respectively on both Gaon's weekly and monthly album charts, then finished the year at #2 and #7 respectively on its yearly album chart for 2015. The two albums are charted on the Japanese Oricon charts, reaching #6 and #12. The album also reached #6 on the U.S. Billboard World Albums Chart.


    The lead track "Sing for You" reached #3 on the Korean Gaon charts and #4 on the Chinese Billboard charts. The b-side "Unfair" reached #8 on the Gaon Charts and #9 on the US Billboard World Songs chart.
