The song was a collaboration of American singer-songwriter Jason Derulo, Chinese singer and rapper Lay and Korean boy group NCT 127. All three of the artists are mentioned equally in the title and credits - none of them are described as "featured," although the two older artists, Derulo and Lay, have the largest parts in the song. The song was set to appear on an unreleased four-part tribute EP, The Greatest Dancer. The song and music video were inspired by Michael Jackson, with the video featuring references to iconic dance moves and videos. Not all of the members of NCT 127 appear on the song or in the video, with Haechan absent due to his medical hiatus.
