jpop had always been not accessible. especially years ago, it was a struggle to even find the music to LISTEN to if you weren't from japan. i slightly lost interest because it was so tiring for me and transitioned to kpop but i think jpop's issue is and has always been accessibility. they don't cater much to international audiences cause their music market is already huge (2nd biggest in the world after the us). it's getting better now but that's why kpop rose while jpop declined internationally
