can someone explain to me why (g)-idle now in their last comeback's album is just ( )-idle and they say ''it's neither men nor women''?...

    Approved the thread.
  • The message is pretty clear I think. Basically it means their gender is not important ie. they should not be held to a particular gender-based standard. Man or woman, who cares, they are just themselves.

To go more into details, it's a reaction to the prejudice female idols (and women in general) have to face comparatively to their male counterparts. Back when Soyeon was still a trainee, she expressed her desire to learn composition, production. She was asked "why?" and mentioned Zico and G-Dragon as producer idols. To which she was said "but they're men". And it's something she never understood as for her it didn't matter. She's not a girl, she's Soyeon. And I-DLE is not a girl group, they're just I-DLE.

    Something like that.

As for their name, for the same reason the G (yeoja in Korean = 'girls') is something that bothers them since debut. In numerous occasions they stated they didn't even know why it was there in the first place. So they decided to get rid of it in accordance with the title track's theme.

I think it's unlikely to be a permanent move though, as the brand is already too established but that's what they'd like to change if they could.

Why is it an anon thread btw?
