There are many opinions about what the top groups are. However, the only ones we’ve come across that appear to have an objective basis are those created by the Korean Business Research Institute (KBRI). These rankings are determined through an analysis of the consumer participation, media coverage, interaction, and community indexes of various girl groups. The KBRI statistics are released monthly. Our analysis provides a broader and more balanced view by combining the monthly rankings into annual averages.
Lovelyz disbanded this month which had the largest effect in the rankings of the top 10 groups. KBRI continues to include disbanded groups. For example, Girl’s Day and f(x) are included in the top 30 this month even though they have both been disbanded. The KBRI rankings are based on social media metrics only. Brave Girls has shown the largest increase moving up 8 positions since half year ago. aespa has solidified its position in the top 10 moving up 6 positions from 12th place since half year ago. On the other hand, ITZY, (G)I-DLE and STAYC have shown the largest decrease in popularity since half year ago. The popularity of the top 10 groups is remarkably stable.
