Following reports that Ryuji Imaichi (38) of dance and vocal group Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS has been referred to prosecutors on suspicion of assault and threats against a taxi driver, the Ray Law Office, representing the victim, released an official statement on July 31.
Ray Law Office Issues Statement: “Regarding the Assault and Threat Case Involving Mr. Ryuji Imaichi”
The statement, published on the law firm’s official website, is titled “Regarding the Assault and Threat Case Involving Mr. Ryuji Imaichi.” It reads, “As legal representatives of the victim in the suspected assault and threat case involving Mr. Ryuji Imaichi, we would like to provide the following factual explanation and cautionary note in order to protect the victim’s reputation, dispel speculation, and prevent defamation.”
According to the victim’s account, there was no prior relationship or contact between the taxi driver and Imaichi. The statement asserts:
“There was absolutely no incident in which the taxi driver made an error in directions or route, opposed or argued with Mr. Imaichi, acted in a provocative manner, became involved in a verbal dispute, or had their customer service criticized by him. The victim was subjected to Mr. Imaichi’s actions unilaterally.”
It further clarifies:
“The victim has never made any monetary demands or proposals—under any name, including settlement or compensation—toward Mr. Imaichi or his agency. Nor was the police report filed with financial motives.
While an apology and settlement proposal were made through Mr. Imaichi’s attorney, no settlement has been reached at this time.”
The statement concludes with a firm warning:
“We have reviewed the dashcam footage and confirmed that the victim’s account aligns with the footage and that there were no issues with the driver’s conduct. The victim’s identity has already been uncovered at their workplace. Therefore, to protect their honor and prevent further speculation not only online but also within their immediate environment, we have provided this supplemental explanation of the facts. Any defamation, speculation, or identification of the victim will be met with legal action. We strongly urge the public to refrain from such behavior.”
