The people in the federal offices in the United States like the president are either Republican or Democrat. Local offices like that of mayor are nonpartisan. I really wish it was Republican vs Democrat because I think labeling a candidate as "Republican" and the other as "Democrat" would be great to figure out if a particular office is solid red or solid blue, or even swing!

  • US being seen as bi-partisan is because it's usually a republican or a democrat being elected to the seat (two of the strongest parties). independents and third-parties can still be voted into office and won't be labeled as republican or democrat. I don't think it's really necessary to have mayoral elections be bi-partisan just to see if the seat is red/blue/swing.. non-partisan elections aren't a bad thing, and it's largely up to the state on whether or not they want to hold partisan or non-partisan municipal/county elections.
