Lullaby | short story

  • Lullaby

The stars are sparkling outside the house.

She is lying in bed, while wearing her white nightgown.

Her eyes are closed, but she can't escape to dreamland.

She turns and opens her eyes to look at the alarm clock.

    1:11 AM.

7 hours left for her to wake up and go to work.

She closes her eyes again and tries to fall asleep by counting sheep in her head.

Out of a sudden, the front door in the hallway opens.

It could only be one person.

Then the bedroom door opens, and she sees him wearing a button-down shirt and tie.

    "Oh, you're awake?" he asks.

"No, you're just dreaming" she responds sarcastically.

"Of course." he says and giggles.

"Well... I have hard time falling asleep tonight." she says.

"I sometimes do too, my dear."

He looks through the window, seeing the stars sparkling.

The stars are making him think of a song.

He then looks at her, who still is lying awake.

"Would it help you sleep if I sang you a lullaby?" he asks.

    "Maybe."

A smile appears on his face.

He lies down on the bed next to her, before he starts singing the song with a soft voice:

    Looking for star

    Looking for love

    그대는 나만의 별

    언제나 그댈 빛나게 해줄게요

    Forever you're my heart

    Looking for star

    Looking for love

    어떤 슬픔도 올 수 없게

    언제까지나 그댈 지켜줄 거예요

    Forever you are my star

When he finishes singing the song, he plants a light kiss on her forehead.

She closes her eyes, trying to sleep again.

"Good night, my star." he whispers.
