Documentaries Discussion Thread

  • I enjoy watching documentaries, especially the ones about nature or the planet but sometimes will also watch true crime or incidents. Since it's the holidays and I am on vacation, I've watch two recently about recent natural disasters on Netflex. Anyone else watched and have thoughts?

After I watched the first one, I was just struck how the island and volcano was EVER opened for tourism. Just like why and how they ever allowed it? Since the incident, it's permanently closed for good reasons. This documentary was very good and it documented what happened from the survivor's POV etc.

The second one was also told from several survivor's POV, both Nepali and tourists. This was such a terrible disaster and how totally unprepared the country was for such an event but it was told from the survivor's POV too. I was really upset with several foreign tourists and their behaviour -- it was just too selfish and to disregard for what was really happening re the communities/Nepal etc.

If you have other good recommendations of good documentary, please feel free to recommend.
