Sometime in 2016, Nine, then known by her real name, Lee Doyoon, became a trainee under Mystic Entertainment.
In November 2016, she appearead as a contestant on the competitive survival show, K-pop Star 6: The Last Chance. She was eventually eliminated from the competition.
