This drama tells the story of Hong Gil Dong's (Yoon Kyun Sang) journey in becoming Joseon’s first revolutionary activist, who succeeded in winning the hearts of the people during the reign of tyrant King Yeonsangun (Kim Ji Sook) who was reviled by his people.
Hong Gil Dong was inspired to fight for the injustice in this society that divided people into nobles and ordinary citizens whereby the former enjoyed all the privileges due solely to their birth.
