I. Introduction
route φ (ルート・ヨン, also known as route 0) was a Japanese-South Korean female duo under R&C Japan Ltd.. They debuted on April 26, 2002 with their first single "Start".In 2003, route φ ended activities as a group and disbanded. Marina retired from the entertainment world and Sooyoung would later debut in Girls' Generation in 2007. Sooyoung would return to the Japanese industry with Girls' Generation in 2010, and would debut as an Japanese Soloist via Avex Trax in 2024.
II. History
In December of 2001, the show ASAYAN began their "Korea Japan Ultra Idol Duo Audition." From out of 15,000 applicants, the final two chosen were Takahashi Marina of Japan and Choi Soo Young of Korea. At the time, Marina was 12 and Soo Young was only 11. The group made their musical debut in April of 2002 with the single "START".
In addition to releasing music, the two did activities as exclusive models for the fashion brand "CHUBBYGANG" and in the magazine melon. Both girls were models for a few junior fashion magazines.
They were produced by Kawamura Ryuichi, who would go on to work with Sooyoung again 22 years later as he is now in a place in power at Avex Trax and she would make her solo debut under the label.
