I had a similar situation like that when a friend grabbed my neck jokingly. The absolute terror that I felt was primal and I smacked the hell out of him including dragging my nails through his face. It was a purely instinctive response, but I could tell that I was aiming to hurt him (aiming nails at eyes) to get away from the situation by any means.
