Agree 100%.

Most of its purposefully skewed to jack into your biases and inflame your emotions anyway. Unplug from that shit and focus on your family/friends. That's the winning move.

Not terribly versed in romance novels but the only one I've read (The Goldbug Variations by Richard Powers), I enjoyed a lot.

As for movies, The Fisher King ranks as a personal favorite. Its a big influence on a novel I'm working on which could also be considered romantic in a way.
