Based on the original manga Ghost in the Shell by Masamune Shirow, this is the first Japanese film adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. Directed by Mamoru Oshii, Ghost in the Shell 1995 is one of his landmark films, complete with thought-compelling visual storytelling, characters, direction, and animation.
In this Japanese animation, cyborg federal agent Major Motoko Kusanagi (Atsuko Tanaka) of Public Security Section 9 trails "The Puppet Master" (lemasa Kayumi), who illegally hacks into the cyber brains of cyborg-humans. Kusanagi's pursuit of a man who can modify the identity of strangers leaves her pondering her own makeup, and what life might be like if she had more human traits. With her partner Batou (Akio Otsuka), Kusanagi corners the hacker, but her curiosity about her identity sends the case in an unforeseen direction.
