I started stanning f(x) recently are u proud Drew
Did you really or are you just saying that to avoid bandwagon accusations?
And I'm not Ronald anymore. I've ascended.
-
speaking of f(x), remember the time capsule they buried in amazing f(x) ? they promised to open it in 10 years which is next year 🥺
Geez 10 years just isn't that long ago to me. This was like 2 weeks ago. Time capsules should be 20 years minimum.
-
realistically the only way they can see a surge of popularity is if one of their members has an impressive idol solo career & the ship has sailed for that long ago i think
see how wonder girls are at least somewhat known among kpop fans due to younger idols covering them & sunmi being everywhere in KPOP. same for shinee & taemin.
they already have the covered song part down (i've seen rum pum pum pum being covered alot lately) but that's kinda it. they'll forever be appreciated for their good discography tho
True that does help. But f(x) occasionally will re enter brand ranking in Korea and even last week Krystal was trending cause Netizens were reminiscing about her idol career calling her the original "It Girl".
Korea definitely hasn't forgotten about f(x).

personally i like Butterfly the best!
That song grew on me more than ANY f(x) song. Its otherworldly!
-
I literally just listened to them for the first time because you recommended them previously. Not bad at all! I’m going to have to do some exploring.
Oh sweet. They definitely aren't for everybody but I'm glad you are interested in hearing more.
I could list a hundred songs to reccomend but I'll just list one.

I can't wait for f(x) to get big in the West!
Will love seeing how their true dedicated fans enjoy that moment!!!!
Yes, I like f(x).
Can I make one thread without being trolled????
-
Awesome. I can’t wait for FX to bring back “The Americans” again. Really great show and the network ratings will soar.
I know your brand new so I won't report this comment.
-
Right now they have a very strong cult following that continues to grow each day.
And once Red Velvet disbands in a few years it will make a spring board effect where f(x) interest will grow because Aespa will be SM only current girl group and they will be more linked to f(x) like Red Velvet was more linked to SNSD. And also more and more people realizing how much impact their music had on kpop and how much it shaped the sound of girl groups since.
So just a reminder that f(x) has been my ultimate group since 2015. I'm not on any bandwagon.

SNSD
Really close to hitting the report button.

Well this has been a very profitable thread. Akorn is akorn even it’s from Drew lol. Thank you. Now I wish I asked for 1000 akorns
I barely had 100 on this account. And your comment was great. It needed rewarding.

You weren't bullying him. You were just speaking the truth like you always do.
Shes been on my case all day in several threads.

Good Lord, some of you don't understand that this is a for profit business. You do realize that if BTS, BP, Twice, etc. are successful in the West they make more $$$?
Seriously, how do the BTS members sleep at night knowing that the fruits of their labor will benefit their families, loved ones, friends, and so many other colleagues financially that have been instrumental in their success?
Also, it must just suck for BTS knowing that as a result of their global success they are bringing in approx. $5b per year to the South Korean economy. The last thing they want is to bring an influx of jobs and new opportunities to their home country.
Oh, and lest we forgot, with the additional success these global K-Pop groups can increase their philanthropic endeavors & charities. I'll be honest with you, I feel nauseous right now knowing that BTS global success has helped feed the poor and heal the sick.
But hey bitches, go ahead and unstan your favorite group when they become popular in the West.
I understand everything is about money first. Just saying if you do choose to sell out that's fine but I won't be along for that ride.
And yes I know they won't care but this is about my thoughts.
-
Hmmm, I haven't really, but I think it's because to stan to me is to be invested in them not just for their music, but also as people and what they stand for. But you're right, I guess it could be interesting - we all come at it from different POVs
Eman made a great thread about why he unstanned Weekly.
-
Sorry, reminded me...
Ozzy's best quote!
Keep bullying me Ves and see what happens.
-
Drew, how old are you? This is edgy kid behaviour lol
Lmao. That made me laugh out loud for real. Props.
-
It's not so much "complicated/normal" so much as,
"What the fuck is this?!"
vs.
"Ahh, that's pleasant."
For an example here.
nmixx has stans, apparently.
But they seem to just kinda.. tolerate the music? I mean, I'm sure some of them love it. But I'm seeing a lot of, you know, "It's not that bad", which isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.
If they started releasing music that sounded like Ariana Grande though?
Fans? Pleased. Very pleased.
Gotcha ya.
Western music is just more digestible.
-
Anyways in all seriousness, I think it's fine if you want to unstan a music group if they're music is no longer your taste, but then gaining success in a specific country is a weird reason to unstan in my opinion if you still like their music. Also I think most fans don't mind if someone unstams a group, it's the constant need to talk about unstanning them with essays that annoys people.
What are these essays yall keep referring to? Must be a twitter thing. I'm not on Twitter.
-
The thing is though,
A lot of fans prefer the "westernisation" of their faves' music.
There are some things I could say here that are maybe, like, uncharitable, arrogant, and just plain wrong:
But it seems to me that stanning doesn't always have to do with the music, and in that case, it's better to have music that is unnoticeable.
Western pop music has mastered the art of being in the background, an aural wallpaper of indistinct and inoffensive beige.
The deliberately jarring nature of a lot of k-pop is actually an.. unwanted thing? A distraction from what they care about?
So in this instance, it's not that the group has decided to not cater to their core fans. They are catering to them. By giving them what they want. Which is oatmeal in sound form.
I dunno, cancel me.
I'm sorry but I'm having trouble following you. Are you saying kpop is sometimes too complicated and fans just want normal?
My bad. Im slow today.
-
No one is required to be a fan. You can come and go as you please for any reason. However, it's super lame when people loudly announce that they're unstanning, as if they're important enough for anybody to actually care.
I think it's an interesting enough topic discuss. I like learning why people unstan groups as much as why people stanned a new group.
