Birthday was terrible, one of the worst debuts I've witnessed. Outta My Head works way better as a tt and fits her much much MUCH better.
Out of her releases, I actually like Dumb Dumb and Fast Forward. Gold Gold Gold is fun, but very b-side like. And I like to pretend Ice Cream never happened lol

Yeah, I hate ice cream too. Outta My Head is amazing, still her best song. I liked birthday but I can't lie.. it was disappointing asf. She also debut too late. Everyone expected her to be the next best soloist but Chungha ended up being more successful! I still like Somi, I have a lot of affection for her as a massive IOI fan (was that obvious? lol) but everything she's done has just been.. disappointing.
I don't know anything about boy groups so I'm just going to be talking about girl groups.
We have gone past the point of having a generation leader or even a big 3 ever since fourth gen. The kpop market is so oversaturated now. I agree with the people saying that the biggest groups probably haven't debut yet. But out of the groups who have, illit and babymonster are going to be incredibly successful.
Illit has the hybe association and they already have a big fandom from RUnext. YG groups are monsters in terms of digital streams and babymonster has already shown that to be true for themselves/
Somi is one of the best examples of wasted potential. She had so much hype and was so popular after ranking #1 on Produce 101 and her time with IOI. I remember people being super disappointed by birthday and pretty much all of her songs after it as well. I don't think they are bad songs, fast forward has a really nice pre-chorus for example. But the songs are bland and don't showcase her talents. Somi is an all-rounder. She has a strong voice (though not the biggest range), she is a great dancer, and she can rap too.
A lot of people chalk it up to controversies she's been in but the truth is almost any kpop idol can come backfrom controversy. Look at mamamoo, exo, hell even seungri still has fans. Somi never did anything that would be truly career ending. It's poor marketing and poor choice of music.
Twice is my ult group and #1favorite group of all time. I used to ult blackpink and still like them but going years without group releases made me lose interest. So yeah, I would rather be a once.

aespa’s music recently has been straight up booty juice (next level, savage etc) they dropped forever which was their best song and then started to do.. whatever they did.
itzy’s music is very hit or miss and a lot of the times you have to listen to a song 20 times for it to “grow on u”
lsrfm is getting cancelled rn for filming in a church or smth
i really love all of g idle’s stuff even recently but people don’t really like wife/super lady bc idk it’s not most ppls taste which i get
newjeans and ive consistently put out good, catchy music. talent can only bring u so far when ur music is dog water.
