You mean journalist articles or posts? Either way idk because I feel like it goes by too fast in the content stream to be worth it (it's unlikely to be seen by a lot of people) and they can just rely on actual fans. to do that

It's not always super dark or visible makeup right, and you just put some examples. Cause sometimes I watch the vlogs where idols are in the makeup room and they show them just before going up on stage, and they just kinda look normal like the pictures Jiminiekookie posted
I have just one memory of wearing stage makeup when I was young doing a dance performance with other little kids, now I remember it was dark and looked weird in the mirror
When will fansites stop whitewashing them
I thought about the same thing, why edit or filter a photo or gif and make it look unnatural. But then I realized I can kind of see the point of that because the point of idol pictures is to make them look good and as godly as possible, you know like what is the point of taking hundreds of pictures that just look mundane. Like the purpose of using bright filters and slowing the gifs a lot is to try to make them look as "legendary" as possible.
At least that's how I am guessing the perspective of fansites.

"Non Survival Idol's counterattack" 😂
I think the article's basis is a bit strange, it says "it is unusual for members' faces to be revealed only 18 days before debut" in an era where most idols are known before their debut. But it is normal for the members to be revealed 30 days beforehand. They could have meant that the release period is shorter than usual or it is unusual that no one has had a public presence before the group.
It dont matter to me. Izone was perfect the way it was, we saw what can happen when randos from the general public are allowed to do the job of creating a Kpop group, everyone ended up hating and eventually abandoning the group despite their kick ass music (Kepler). There is a reason why rigging by actual professionals is necessary to come up with a group that everyone will fall in love with (W1, X1, IOI, Izone).
If the groups hadn't been rigged though there would only be 2 to 3 members difference and it wouldn't be much change

Yall... no one's saying NewJeans invented pre realses. Or that they have been the only ones doing it. But they have undoubtedly been responsible for the influx of them by big groups that we have been seeing since Attention. I know it brings some of you physical pain to admit NewJeans have positive influence but look at the timeline and look at the way these pre releases have been rolled out(1-1/2 weeks before the main comeback vs before when it was 2 weeks to a month) and tell me NewJeans aren't partially responsible.
I don't think their debut counts. If we use their designation of triple title track then that is different from a official pre release. And if we look at it from the audiences or other companies perspective it looks like releasing an album 8-9 days after the titles, not 2 8-9 days early prerelease tracks

seems a pretty bland topic for such an intense discussion..
could be the western industry - who have been doing it for years - since most kpop groups have been pushing extra for global recognistion recently. could be BTS with how immense Dynamite was or bp with HYLT - which, although nowhere near dynamite, was very popular. could be newjeans who has been blowing up the kpop industry this year.... so many possibilities & unless some company rep says anything about it, we won't know methinks
What do they call it in west

WTF
Aespa did pre-release before newjeans even debut some of you need to stop with this fake narrative that aespa suddenly start to do pre-release thanks to NEWjeans
When they pre-release Life's too short and Illusion
As pre-release for the Girls EP 😑😑😑
Yes, that's what I said, I said ive and i-dle suddenly did it this comeback which people may think is inspired, but aespa did it before in the past with Life's Too Short so it was probably not "inspired" from anyone.

I was not wrong technically it was pre-release
https://www.allkpop.com/articl…d-of-its-official-release
red velvet's automatic if I'm not mistaken was a pre-release single
https://www.kpopstarz.com/arti…-ice-cream-cake-album.htm
the whole point if these prereleases have been done before also don't you get tired of making accounts after getting banned?
I kind of agree with the title, yes it has been done before but it is just that suddenly multiple groups that have never done a pre-release before are now doing it at the same time (Ive and Gidle). (aespa did it before)
In Ive's case it's for their first full album, but for I-dle there is no special circumstance.
However, I'm not sure if it's too dramatic to say they got the idea from NJ, just cause they did it in Dec - Jan. Because as I said Kitsch and Allergy are happening 2 weeks and 1 week before the comeback and that is a different timing of pre-release track than 1 month before, that can be treated more like a teaser by fans.
As far as I can tell there is no formal definition of "pre-release" (just like "mediaplay", when I googled I only found references to k-pop), so anyone can call a song a pre-release regardless of how close it is to the official release and regardless if it is actually released as its own single. But in my opinion, if the "pre-release song" is released so close to the album like 7 days or less before*, then it might as well just be a teaser with a different name.
edit: *Even if there is a full high budget MV and it includes the whole song (not just half)
I just found out Fifty Fifty called their track released 4 days before their debut a pre-release too. (Lovin' Me and Higher)
