I don't think it's as bad as you make it out to be OP.
Yes, the trends in songs and content have changed and the songs are getting shorter and focus on getting some viral moments. But as far as vocalists, I think they were always idols who stood out and it didn't change. Even in 2nd gen for every great vocalist, there were 10 less skilled ones.
And it may feel like there's more emhasis on looks now but I personally think it's because of the importance of social media. But if you were following kpop years ago, they were highly focused on looks too. An example from my fav group - SNSD. Almost every variety show they went to had some sort of comments about their looks and they would discuss their legs, Yoona's visuals, who's prettier bare face etc. Not to mention if you watch some materials you'll see the cameraman focused on their looks too, obviously. There are kpop fans who stan idols based on their looks now but they also existed back then. So I wouldn't exactly say that 10-15 years ago the focus was only on the talent.
I'm not super familiar with 5th gen and only follow a few groups from gen 4 but I know that for example we have vocalists such as Lily from Nmixx (the whole Nmixx is amazing but Lily is the best), I think Kiss of Life can sing quite well and people praise some vocalists from Baby Monster. Like I said, I'm not familiar with that many newer groups but I don't think the quality of singing got that much worse.

Can we not? It's real people we're talking about and it's kind of disrespectful.
I know sometimes people ask which historical figure or writer that passed away would you like to meet, but this is different and more recen.
All of them deserved to live a longer, happy life, but sadly it wasn't the case.
Edit: Just my opinion, of course.

I've been a kpop fan since early 2011 and SNSD was also my first group 😊
Then I discovered f(x) and for the longest time I was only listening to these two groups, until I started discovering more of them.
I only joined this forum in 2021 but I also used to have a kpop tumblr blog and was a part of some kpop communities on livejournal. I also joined another kpop forum years ago but if I remember well it became inactive and I lost interest after a while.

I read a lot as it's one of my hobbies and favourite pastimes, so I'd say I hope to read more than last year.

When I was a kid I was really fascinated by space and astronomy and I'd go instantly if I had a chance.
Right now I'd go to visit but probably only if it was 100 % safe

None of the two.
I definitely don't see it as a sandwitch but in my language we also don't call it a pie.
I also don't personally think that pizza dough is a bread dough, it's simply a savory yeast dough (and you can also make a sweet type of the same dough and use it in certain types of cakes or patisserie).
Fun question though, I can't believe I jus wrote so much about pizza dough lol

I know, I was so shocked too
It does fit her though, she seems to be quite cheerful and cute.
I would honestly like to know how did they come up with this stage name and who chose it, it's so strange to see it. Maybe she knows someone from Poland, knew the name and liked it? Perhaps we will find out in the future in some interview.

Concert performances just hit differently, right?
Thank you for sharing these, they're all great performances. 2ne1 really know how to hype up the crowds, the energy was amazing!

I don't know if I should engage with this thread, if it's serious or maybe it's a bait for the fanwars
But I think there's a few reasons why it's hard to compare them as vocalists.
Is Yunjin classicaly trained? She seems to be and afaik classical singing is so different from modern "pop" singing. She sounds great in the clips where she's doing classical singing and I also liked the clip from Lee Mujin's Service, but imo she's struggling a bit during this Weverse Con performance and I saw some clips online where she struggled while performing with her group.
Jennie on the other hand is a full blown kpop singer but also singing never was her main focus, because she's a rapper too. From what I remember from my days as a blink, her singing was usually powerful and she was stable while performing live but it is hard to compare her to someone trained in classical singing, who was probably trained a lot in the aspects that kpop idols don't often focus on that much. In Blackpink I feel like they focused a lot on sounding original and stylised their voices in a certain way while classical singers obviously learn the proper technique , musicality etc. (I am not one, but this is from what I know, as I used to study with such singer at the uni)
So we could argue that perhaps Yunjin is a better vocalist but Jennie is a better kpop singer.

There is a reason My Tragedy is my favorite song of hers, and it is not just the vocals, it is the arrangements.
I agree, the instrumental for this song is amazing and I think they made it even better during this performance!
It's one of my favourite songs from Purpose and I think it's the first time she performed it fully at the concert, I was so amazed.

Thxs for this. I'm not that into IVE so I wouldn't know.
No problem! I'm not an expert in dancing, so I'm just going by what I read online from more knowledgable people. Yujin is my bias and favourite performer in IVE but I admit Gaeul is great at dancing and is the main dancer.
I also have a theory that Yujin has been getting more spotlight for their dance breaks because she's treated as an unofficial centre with Wonyoung of course being the centre and the visual (because they already had some popularity and fanbases before IVE, so obviously the company would want to take the advantage of that).
-
Yujin is also an amazing dancer but people often say that Gaeul's technique is better.
I think Yujin may stand out more to some people, because she's just an amazing performer and tends to dance with a lot of power. But Gaeul is a really good dancer imo and after their debut, the two of them with Leeseo did some great dancing covers.
