How is acquisition make the acquired company broke though? Forced payment of dividend to parent? Technically with a parent in place, the company should have more available funding sources

Considering the CEO started broke, I don't see it shocking. He was probably promised about moon and stars. He may thought that Big Hit does the acquisition, Gfriend will re-peak and so on. Only buddies can speak of how much they spent the last year lol. It was truly a shock. 3 comebacks with extremely high quality promotion, new dorms, a lot of new printed merch, the freaking reality show memoria went on for a whole year and was filmed in expensive places, a lot of new employees, new trainees and auditions.... THAT speaks, plus Gfriend couldn't tour anymore due to the pandemic which restricted their main source of income

I'm not sure but people also say the mother agency takes 80% of the profit, that was why Woollim ended their contract with SM

I don't understand why people keep saying its sus. Gfriend sales and popularity have been on the decline for years. Even before being acquired by bh, soumu wasn't making enough to sustain long term. Rumors have been going around for months that some members wouldn't renew and as a group they were probably ready to move on. They are featured in the hybe museum so some members are probably staying and pursuing a solo career.

What people don't understand is that their brand remains huge. When they attend to perform at festivals, appear on variety shows, etc. A group with 5 hits and 70+ music show wins is always considered a huge brand. Their digital success was slowing down but they started touring over Asia and still had the same album sales, touring brings them more than digital success. THAT doesn't lead to disbandment. That actually works fine. Oh My Girl was profitable before they hit big, lovelyz is sttill doing well for woollim. WJSN is selling only a bit more than Gfriend and they are fine. The issue here was the splurging they did once the acquisition happened.

You all are very dramatic, the reason behind "disbandment" is NOT being "unsuccessful". Once a group hits big, and releases more than one hit (in gfriend's case 5 hits) and is past 20 wins on public music shows, the group's brand remains huge forever. They were decently profitable considering how they were touring and selling well physically. The issue here is the acquisition, it made the agency which started broke but was saved by Gfriend go broke once again.

I process it. If it is a funk that I am having trouble shaking, I'll dance or "diddy" (which is not "all out" dancing) the sadness away to some of my favorite hype songs or find some funny vids to crack up to, like this one:

Who says there is just one way to release anything weighing you down? :-)

    She is cute.... <3

I didn't even know that is related, but I went to the doctor some months ago and he did tell me that I have very weak muscles lol. He told me to try Yoga and I have been doing it tho so hopefully it improves

It's kind of an hypocrisy how people who wanted "Aladdin" to be played by a more ethnic looking actress than Naomi Scott are defending this black girl and Disney's choice. It seems that their problem is with white people lol. And "The Little Mermaid" is a Danish story. If it was a story made by non-white nations and a white person was playing it people would accuse it of cultural appropriation or something

I really LOVE the path they are following for their songs and concepts. Tbh when I watch their performances they have the freshness of rookies, they seem like teenagers. They are actually older than Twice or Gfriend per say (who were both bashed for having the cute or innocent concept when they were years younger lol)

I even watch performances from newly debuted rookies with a cute concept and Oh My Girl seems younger than them. Don't you think so?

Cool, thanks for letting us know what some unkown, specially selected comments by anti fans said.

I don't even stan twice but this seems such a cheap article. Being in Kpop for over 10 years, I have to tell that many sites tend to translate bitter comments with max 20 upvotes that doesn't even represent Korea's gp for getting feedback and receiving clicks. BlackPink themselves were also bashed for singing bad many times, if that's the case.

the song is so good and catchy, I can see why the GP prefers to listen to old releases rather than the recent music from ggs

I hope the company uses the hype to give them new promos

IKR, the new path which Kpop is following has just been releasing noise to appeal to westerners. Of course the digital performance would drop so dramatically. Groups is general are performing WAY worse than 2016 per say.

Well it's no rocket science that compared to cheer up or TT they are not really slaying the digital charts. But we have entered an era that even groups on verge of their disbandment could get a hit out of nowhere, so it's not exactly shocking if they end up releasing a huge hit with longevity with one of their next comebacks, it's even easier for them who is known among the public.

With Laboum's contract ending this year and they are finally having a hit song, I wonder what will happen

Their contracts are up in August and since Journey To Atlantis is a riser song (and rising songs tend to have better longevity), if they disband by August JTA will be still on MelOn charting pretty high. Luck has literally knocked on their door as much as it did for brave girls who was almost disbanded. I'm sure other agencies would kill themselves for such an opportunity but Global H doesn't give a f. They have been quiet on LABOUM's official account and the agency's social media has been dead since 2019.
